3D Animation Concepts
I. Details of the event/activity
The title of the webinar I attended online was “3D Animation Concepts” a part of the “Webinar Series on Basic Computer Animation”. This webinar focuses on 3D Animation using Blender which is a 3D Modelling and animation software. The webinar was organized by the NEUST – Training Department, of Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology. It was held on September 22, 2022 at 8:00-12:00 NN (PT). The master speaker of the webinar is Mr. Angelo Cunanan. He’s an IT Instructor at NEUST, and had studied his BSIT at NEUST.
II. Reflections on the webinar/activity give rise to (learnings)
This webinar relates to my studies
as a BSEMC student. Although I already knew the basics of animation specially
on 3D Modelling, I might say this webinar is just a refresher of what I already
learned in 3D Animation on Blender. As the speaker showed us the different ways
and unorthodox ways of animating with Blender, I reminisce my journey in
learning Blender, it reminded me about the times that I struggle doing a render
or even model.
As with everyone who had just
started using Blender for 3D Modelling, learning it wasn’t easy at all
specially learning ang remembering tons of shortcut keys, but I’ll tell –
shortcut keys are straight forward awesome.
Anyways, the speaker Mr. Angelo
Cunanan or he calls himself as Sir Gel. He did a wonderful rundown of all the
functions and parts of the UI of Blender. From the shortcut keys and methods in
manipulating a mesh, like ctrl + e for extrude and the likes of it. He
explained it in an arranged fashion. He also modeled a character as reference
for 3D rigging on which he added bones for animating movement of the character
like a walk cycle.
The speaker has some great
experience in animation and digital works. Although he does this as a hobby,
but what is inspiring is his number of skills and passion he has for making
animations while also being an instructor to his students. The kind of
creativity and skill is worth listening and I’m very humble to be a part of his
webinar. Although there are some key aspects that are not give much of
attention such as using textures in Blender, hopefully in some point may he
tackle about this.
III. Reflections on possibilities on implementing some of the webinar
input on a practical level (practical application of learnings)
I can apply this webinar on my
freelancing gigs such as my Fiverr and on other project related to 3D Animation.
It’s a good reminder on the functions and basics of Blender, a webinar good for
starters and animator wannabes.
IV.
Positive feedback (on the event organization)
Again, its was a great experience
meeting different animators, how they do their work and what they could share
with us. This webinar did that, a simple yet concise way of introducing
animation to aspiring animators or new to animation. I’m hoping for more
webinars and topics from them, I would gladly join their webinars in the
future.
V. Suggestions for improvements to be made/consider for future activities
As said earlier, there are some key
aspects that are not given that much attention, hopefully they reiterate it at
some point or they add in another time. They must try tackling about free hand
animation, 3D Texturing and 3D Animation.
